H.G. Bissinger
Harry Gerard (Buzz or H.G.) Bissinger III was born November 1st, 1954 in New York City. He graduated from Phillips Academy in 1972 and went on to attend the Univeristy of Pennsylvania, where he earned a degree in Journalism in 1976. While attending the University, Bissinger was the sports editor of the local paper. His Journalism career started at the Ledger-Star paper in Norfolk,Virginia. He moved on, then writing for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. While Writing for the Inquirer in 1987 he won the Pulitzer Prize for writing an investigative series on the Philadelphia Court System. In 1988 Bissinger left Philadelphia and moved to Odessa, Texas to write a book on how small town life can be affected by a high School football team. Friday Night Lights was published in 1990 and was New York Times number one best seller, with nearly two million copies sold and still in print today. Bissinger moved to Chicago in 1990 and became an investigative journalist for roughly two years. In 1992 Bissinger left Chicago to write Prayer for the City back in Philadelphia. Prayer for the City is about mayor Edward G. Rendell during his office in Philadelphia. Bissinger's book was "hailed as a classic on politics and Urban America." Bissinger's most recent work was released in 2005, Three Nights in August, about St. Louis Cardinals baseball Manager Tony La Russa. The book spent times on the New York Times number one best seller and is classified as "one of the best baseball books ever wrote." Not only has Buzz Bissinger been working on books, but also telivision. He wrote for the hit show NYPD Blue in Los Angeles during the years of 2000-2002. Today, Buzz Bissinger writes "The Throwback," an online sports column for the New York Times. Bissinger is married with three kids and lives in Philadelphia. Among all his other work, Bissinger is currently working on a book with Lebron James, Titled Shooting Stars.
